About Us

As iron sharpens iron. One man sharpens another.

Texas Masonry is a deeply intertwined in Texas History. Our story begins when in 1847 the La Grange Masonic Lodge was organized with John Murchison as the first Worshipful Master of the Lodge. Historically, Masons have supported many civic causes including education. The La Fayette Lodge laid the cornerstone for the Fayette County Courthouse in 1891, with District Judge and Lodge member Lyttleton W. Moore delivering the oration. The Lodge lost its charter in 1883-84 due to inactivity, but reformed in 1889 with its original Lodge number and R. P. Kirk installed as Worshipful Master. The present Lodge temple was dedicated Jun. 22, 1939. Notable members have included Judge Moore, G. A. Stierling, William Loessin, Charles Jungmichel, and many other Texas and local leaders. (2012). There is a Historical Marker in front of the Lodge which describes the history of the La Grange Lodge and which is property of the State of Texas. Today, La Fayette Lodge helps support members in our the community with our Scholarship Fund and helps support orphans and widows. Our Lodge continues to grow and thrive through faith, hope, and charity.

Freemasonry is a fraternity. Its membership is restricted to men, but there is no hazing as is found in some college fraternities. The Masonic Order is a serious group.   It exists to take good men and help them to become better men. Thus, it is not a reform society. It does not exist to reform criminals, nor would such persons benefit from its teachings. The principal tenets of Freemasonry are Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth.
